LAS RATAPUNKS burst out of Cajamarca, a city in the Peruvian highlands, in 2014. Yk, Irma and Kiara had known each other from the city's hardcore scene since they were teenagers. Weeks after the first rehearsal, Wendi joined, and a while after, they released the first EP "Ratas de Ciudad" (“City Rats”), the audio of a live video session, from an audiovisual platform called Sawá Sesiones.

Despite members moving to other locations, the band kept gigging, including some dates in the Peruvian capital, Lima, via an invitation from Charly, the vocalist of the Peruvian band DIAZEPUNK.

In 2020 the band finished recording the "Fracaso, Año de la Rata 2020” (“Failure, Year of the Rat 2020”) and had a European tour scheduled…but as with all bands, the Covid19 pandemic put paid to that…for the time being, anyway. One track was released in 2020 on “Girlz Disorder Volume 1”, an international femipunk compilation.

In 2021, Amok Records, Kibou Records and No Front Teeth Records put out the “Fracaso, Año de la Rata 2020” on 7” vinyl.
